At Ajmal Technical Training Institute, we were honored to welcome a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM Somalia) to our training facilities in Baidoa. The visit offered an important opportunity to showcase our ongoing vocational training programs implemented in partnership with READO Somalia, focused on empowering vulnerable youth with practical skills and psychosocial support.

Ajmal has been contracted by READO to deliver a comprehensive skills development program targeting youth who have experienced displacement, conflict, and limited access to formal education. Through this initiative, we aim to equip young men and women with the technical know-how and emotional resilience needed to rebuild their lives and pursue sustainable livelihoods.

A Day of Insight and Interaction

The IOM delegation was taken on a guided tour of our classrooms, workshops, and training spaces, where they observed students actively participating in various vocational courses. These included:

  • Tailoring and Fashion Design: Young women were engaged in sewing and garment-making lessons, learning not only practical stitching techniques but also how to market and sell their finished products.
  • Carpentry and Woodwork: Students were working on real-life furniture construction projects, gaining hands-on experience with tools and safety procedures.
  • Digital Literacy and Computer Basics: In our computer lab, trainees were learning fundamental IT skills that are essential in today’s job market.
  • Electrical Installation: Youth in this stream were practicing wiring techniques, learning how to install safe, efficient electrical systems in residential and commercial settings.

Throughout the visit, IOM representatives interacted with both instructors and trainees, listening to their stories, aspirations, and feedback. Many of the youth shared how the training has given them a sense of purpose, restored their confidence, and opened new doors for income generation.

Holistic Training with Lasting Impact

Our training approach is not just about skill-building—it’s about healing, resilience, and transformation. Many of the youth we work with come from deeply challenging backgrounds, including displacement due to conflict or climate shocks, gender-based violence, or the long-term effects of poverty and marginalization.

That’s why our curriculum also includes:

  • Psychosocial support services to address trauma and promote mental well-being
  • Life skills and entrepreneurship training to encourage self-employment and adaptability
  • Mentorship and follow-up support to ensure long-term success beyond graduation

We were proud to show IOM how this integrated model is making a real difference in the lives of youth and their families in Baidoa.

We extend our sincere thanks to IOM Somalia for taking the time to visit our institute and engage meaningfully with our trainees and staff. Their interest and encouragement mean a great deal to us and to the youth who are working hard every day to improve their futures.

We are also deeply grateful to READO Somalia for entrusting us with the implementation of this vital program. Together, we are creating pathways for economic independence, social reintegration, and community resilience.

As Ajmal Technical Training Institute continues to grow, we remain committed to providing safe, supportive, and high-quality vocational education to those who need it most. The visit from IOM is a reminder of the importance of collaboration and shared purpose in creating lasting, positive change.
